Maya Angelou Documentary To Air At Teaneck Center

TEANECK, N.J. — “Maya Angelou and Still I Rise,” the first documentary about the famed author, will air 6 p.m. Nov. 6 at the Puffin Cultural Forum in Teaneck.

The life of Maya Angelou is explored in a new documentary, "Maya Angelo and Still I Rise," to be released in October.

Angelou, known for classics such as “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” and “All God’s Children Need Traveling Shoes,” died in 2014.

Though Angelou is known worldwide as a symbol of peace, humility, and freedom there are still parts of her story that are not well known.

Some are explored in this 114-minute documentary, to be released in mid-October. It is directed by Bob Hercules and Rita Coburn Whack.

The film explores how the history, culture, and arts of Angelou’s time shaped her and how she, in turn, helped shape the world view of others through her activism and autobiographical writing.

The Puffin Cultural Forum is located at 20 Puffin Way, Teaneck.
